The 150-year history of the tradition of collective choral singing and the new image of the Mežaparks Grand Stage make an excellent platform for viewing the typological evolution of the buildings of the Nationwide Song Festivals. It is a story based on cultural history dealing with three fundamentally different approaches to the spatial framework of the festival: covered buildings, audience fields with singers’ podiums in the cityscape and the construction of a stationary complex in Mežaparks.
