The 150-year history of the tradition of collective cho- ral singing and the new image of the Mežaparks Grand Stage make an excellent platform for viewing the typo- logical evolution of the buildings of the Nationwide Song Festivals. It is a story based on cultural history dealing with three fundamentally different approaches to the spatial framework of the festival: covered buildings, au- dience fields with singers’ podiums in the cityscape and the construction of a stationary complex in Mežaparks.
